Youngsters invited to plan their own town

Droitwich Editorial 20th Jun, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

CHILDREN in Droitwich have been invited to become town planners for the day and build their own giant map of their ideal town.

Youngsters, between seven and 11 years old, will be given the chance to turn into detectives and discover the history behind some of Droitwich’s oldest buildings.

The new, free workshop, which has been launched by the Our Droitwich Project Schools, will give youngsters the opportunity to share their views on what they might have done differently.

In particular, they will be looking into the challenges faced by town planners between the 1950s and the present day, when the town’s population rose from 6,000 to 23,000.

Those taking part will be working on essential map reading, interpreting primary sources, observation, deduction, speaking and listening, team work and presentation skills.

Schools or groups interested in enrolling their students or individuals wanting to take part can email [email protected] or call James Robertson on 01905 822722.
