A MAN was suffered severe head and facial injuries when he was viciously attacked after a row in Droitwich town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning (July 27).

The serious assault took place at around 12.40am near the Star and Garter, on the corner of the High Street, Friar Street and St Andrews Road.

It is believed the 42-year-old was knocked unconscious and then possibly assaulted further while he was on the floor, before he was taken to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry for treatment.

Police say a number of people witnessed the event and officers are urging anyone with any information about the assault, in particular a passing family with children, to come forward and speak to them by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

David Webb, the landlord of The Star and Garter, told The Standard he wanted to make it clear that his pub was closed at the time and the incident had nothing to do with his venue.
