Droitwich barber’s brush with chart success

A DROITWICH barber has proved he can cut it in the music business after his debut EP and video were released on Sunday (May 4).

And Richard Farmer, who owns Prestige Barbers Club in Old Market Court, saw his EP shoot up to number 57 in the iTunes’ charts, proving popular within just a day of its release.

The 23-year-old who can play both the piano and the guitar put out five songs including his first single Evermore. He also unveiled his new music video which racked up more than 500 views on YouTube in just 24 hours.

The singer-songwriter who first became interested in music when he was 15 said he had been influenced by a number of artists such as Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Drake and Justin Timberlake.

Richard added how the reason it had taken him so long to release his own material was because he needed to save up the money to pay for studio time, owning his own business had helped him to do this.

He said before Sunday he had been a bit nervous but mainly excited to see what people’s reaction would be to his music – so he was glad to see it had gone down well.

“People I do not even know are contacting me and sending me messages about how much they have been enjoying my music.

“The EP starts off with a real R’n’B feel and then moves onto songs influenced by people such as Drake and Justin Timberlake before it turns into a more singer song-writer, acoustic sound with tracks inspired by artists like Ben Howard and Coldplay.”

Richard’s EP is available for download on iTunes for £3.95.
