More volunteers needed for Droitwich Scouts groups

Droitwich Editorial 19th Nov, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

SPA residents are still being sought for voluntary roles with the 3rd scouts, cubs and beavers, along with brownies and guides.

The re-appeal follows a successful meeting held at St Richards House last Wednesday (November 12).

We reported on our front page a fortnight ago the current number of clubs in Droitwich could not cope with the demands of existing numbers and there was a waiting list of young people waiting to join.

The positions are open to those who are over 18 and can spare a few hours a month.

Participants can do as little or as much as they like at the groups, which are aimed at providing youngsters with new adventures, including experiencing the great outdoors and interacting with others.

Coun Richard Morris, the chairman of Droitwich Area Young People’s Action Group, thanked The Standard for giving the campaign such high-profile publicity and said: “I was pleased a few people attended the meeting and were able to discuss opportunities with scout and guide representatives.

“However, I am aware that not everyone who may be able to support would have been able to attend the session and I urge them still to contact us on the details below.”

Viv Ware from the 3rd Scouts group and Andi Jones, the Guides District Commissioner, both said the evening had been worthwhile but wanted to hear from more volunteers.
