THE DROITWICH Youth Council has unveiled its plans to try and bring a skatepark to the town.
During the meeting, members discussed how they planned to approach the project.
A hot topic of discussion was how many young people in the town had expressed an interest in having something similar to the Creation Skatepark in Birmingham – a large indoor park which is supervised by adults.
Chairing the meeting, 16-year-old Konner Gethins explained how the current skatepark was used by a varity of indivduals – some who were there to use it for extra curriculum activities like skateboarding and BMXing and others who used it as a place to binge drink and even take drugs.
He added how beneficial it would be if these dedicated youngsters had somewhere to go where it was safe and there were supervising adults – separating them from those carrying out acts of anti-social behaviour.
Plans were made for some of the council members to visit the Birmingham park to speak with staff and find out more about how it was started and how it was run.
Coun Richard Morris, who was present at the meeting, said: “We want to represent the young people of the town and try and give them a voice into what goes on and create a future for young members of Droitwich.
“It is about investing in the youths of the area.”
