DROITWICH residents flocked to the town’s first Charter Market of 2014 last Friday (April 4).
The weekly event, back by popular demand, will be run a trial basis every Friday between 9am and 4pm for the next three months.
And, if successful, organisers say it will continue indefinitely.
A variety of stalls were open for business in Victoria Square and in the Saltbarrow Market, just off the High Street, with products including fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, pies, jewellery, fairtrade products and much more.
Droitwich’s Deputy Mayor Bob Brookes said the town council had done its bit, crossing the ‘T’s and dotting the ‘I’s on dozens of legal documents but the ink was not yet dry and the next stage was up to residents.
“If you want a market, if you like a browse and some bargains, come along and support as many Fridays as you can – tell your friends and neighbours and get them to come too.
“If it is well supported and successful it will continue – use it or lose, it the choice is yours.”
Market manager Joe Jones said it was a roaring success and claimed it had brought more trade to the town.
“The public loved it, I received lots of great feedback, and the shop traders were very enthusiastic.”
