A PARALYMPIC footballer rewarded youngsters with art supplies after they won a competition aimed at raising eye cancer awareness.

Children at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Droitwich, were given a special presentation by Darren Harris, who represented Team GB in blind football and Judo at the Paralympic Games.

It came after the youngsters, aged from five to 11, won the regional round of a competition aimed at raising awareness for the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust (CHECT) with their eye-themed art work.

Darren is a patron of the charity which launched the competition during World Retinoblastoma Week in May.

He said: “I was touched by the amazing efforts of the children’s artwork and the difference in how each child represented the competition brief and their understanding of CHECT’s work.”
