SHOPPERS, residents and business owners in Droitwich all stopped what they were doing at 11am on Friday (May 8) to commemorate the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
A short service and a silence was held at the war memorial in Victoria Square.
In attendance were veterans and representatives from Droitwich Royal British Legion (RBL), including parade marshall John O’Rurke, president Tony Hall, secretary Allen Newman, standard bearer Dave Williams and chairman Steve Moore.
Dignatries, including Droitiwch Spa Mayor, Coun Bob Brookes, and Deputy Mayor, Coun Graham Beale, were also there.
Either side of the two-minute silence, Salvation Army bugler Charlie Green played the Last Post and Reveille.
Coun Brookes said: “We all found it very moving – it was a special occasion and obviously very meaningful to those present.”
