MEMBERS of the Droitwich-based SPA-rkles WI were up early and out and about in Vines Park this morning as part of their Yarn Bombing operation.
The women were busy making the park look pretty, ready for the thousands of visitors that will be heading there and to the town centre as part of Salt Fest.
The knitted items are all waterways themed and have all been done by the group’s Knit and Natter group, which meets each month at The Old Cock Inn, in Friar Street, has been brightening up the Spa.
Belinda Heywood, who leads the group, said: “We helped out with the yarn-bombing of Victoria Square earlier this year which got everyone talking.
“We decided we would build on this and came up with lots of canal-based ideas for this project.
“As well as brightening up Vines Park we wanted to show that knitting can be fun –our Knit and Natter group sees members of all ages and abilities having a go at making things or even just enjoying a natter.”
SPArkles members will join Witton and Salwarpe Women’s Institutes to share a stall in Vines Park later today as part of a drive to raise the profile of the WI which celebrates its centenary this year.
Everyone is welcome to go and see the women on the stall to find out more about the WI, what it does and, if they want, how they can join.
