Droitwich youth council launched

Droitwich Editorial 18th Sep, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH Spa Youth Council was officially launched at Salt Fest on Saturday (September 12).

The group, which had a stand in Vines Park, has been set up to allow young people to have their say in how the town is managed and for them to convey what changes they want to see in the future.

Coun Sital Harris, who has been heavily involved in the project, said it was important the young people in Droitwich had a voice, along with activities, music festivals, events and social surroundings to enjoy.

“We want to increase work experience and apprenticeship opportunities and help bring back the brine baths,” said Coun Harris.

“Our youth are the future of Droitwich Spa, this is why Richard Morris and I want them to be actively involved with any further developments.

“I am very proud to be part of the Youth Council and want to raise the profile of youth services in the town.”

The launch at Salt Fest was very successful: as well as raising the profile of the organisation, £57.41 was also collected to help fund it.

The Droitwich Spa Youth Council has a one, two, and five-year plan to improve opportunities and has been asking businesses and the whole community to support it to achieve a brighter future for young people in Droitwich.

There was an added bonus for the group’s members at Salt Fest as the aspiring politicians got to meet Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston.

Mr Huddleston told The Standard: “It is great to see so many young people engaged in their local community and the council members have good ideas about improving local leisure services and how to make the town an even better place to live and work.”

The Droitwich Spa Youth Council also wants to thank Steve Bradbury, from SMB In Print Design, for sponsoring the group’s banner for the launch.
