Droitwich finish campaign in style

PROMOTION may have been out of sight for Droitwich, but they still finished their season on a high with an eight-wicket win over Colwall on Saturday.

A superb all round performance from Max Young provided the inspiration for the hosts as he took four wickets before scoring an unbeaten 92 runs.

After dismissing Colwall for 154, Spa dominated with the bat and secured the win with 23 overs to spare as they finished the campaign in third place in Division One of the Worcestershire County League.

Young may have took the plaudits, but he was well-supported by spin trio Martyn Davies, Jack Eaton and Gary Cartwright plus an excellent fielding display by the rest of the team,

After two wickets fell in quick succession, Young then shared a match-winning century stand with Paul Bryan, whose steady approach proved the perfect foil for his younger aggressor.

The last 30 runs were scored in just over two overs as Young blazed four boundaries in five balls, with Bryan sedately compiling a steady 26 not out.

Meanwhile, Droitwich Seconds finished their campaign in style with a 138-run win at Bredon, where all of the batsmen contributed.

There were half centuries for James Hancher and James King, while Martin Keen and Rhys John also weighed in with 37 and 47 respectively as the visitors totalled 239-4.

Needing a positive result to preserve their league status, Bredon had no answer to the in-swing of Carl Thompson. His 5-32 confirmed their relegation as Spa ended the campaign just five points behind promoted Coombs Wood.
