Droitwich's Salt Fest hailed a great success

THOUSANDS of visitors descended on Droitwich over the weekend for the tenth annual Salt Fest.

The weekend began with live music in Vines Park on Friday night (September 11).

Then on Saturday (September 12), the St Augustine’s Church bells rang out to welcome everyone and Droitwich Spa Mayor, Coun Graham Beale, and Wychavon chairman, Coun Val Wood, officially opened the event.

There was a parade by the Droitwich Air Cadets Band, Roman re-enactors and other exhibitors.

Visitors were able to find out more about the town’s salt history, there was a re-enactment of the 1715 election hustings arranged by Hanbury Hall and there were a variety of stalls to browse, children’s activities and more live entertainment.

There was also a duck race and an evening of poetry.

And on Sunday, there was more live music in Vines Park and a dog show.

Janet Yates, Droitwich Spa business partnerships manager, said, after a damp start, the Salt Fest proved to be another great event.

“It was lovely to see the town so busy and the number of community groups and businesses who got involved.

“We have had some fantastic feedback and plans are already underway for the 2016 event programme.”
