A DROITWICH pensioner whose home was burgled has praised police for their quick response and incredible support.
Robert Aston, of Chawson, returned home from visiting his daughter last week to find his house had been broken into after the burglars smashed the glass in the patio doors in the kitchen.
It is believed jewellery and other small valuable items as all the electrical goods in the home were left behind.
The 71-year-old said he reported it and the officers arrived at his home straight away followed closely by a forensic team.
They told him a support officer would contact him and inform him about their victim support schemes and he heard from them the next day.
The widower said: “They were so helpful. The police get a lot of criticism but I could not fault them.
“After that I even got a call from CID in Worcester as the case had been passed to them.
“They kept me up-to-date with what was going on.”
A few days later Mr Aston received a call from Wychavon District Council about their Safe and Sound Security Scheme which is available to people who have been victims of crime and offers a free alarm service.
“I thought the scheme was brilliant,” he added.
“I took them up on it and they even put me in touch with a community safety warden.
“The new support network they have set up for victims of crime who may have had an emotional reaction to what has happened is just fantastic.
“I am so impressed.”
