DROITWICH also fell silent on Wednesday (November 11) to mark Armistice Day.

Schoolchildren were among those who went to the memorial in Victoria Square to remember the time when, at 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, an armistice peace agreement was signed by the allies and Germany, signalling the end of the First World War.

Coun Bob Brookes, who attended on Wednesday, said: “I was very pleased to see the representation from the schools and I hope that in this way the next generation will gain? an understanding of the issues and sacrifices made for their future.”

Droitwich’s deputy mayor. Coun Roy Murphy, laid a wreath at the war memorial in the Spa’s twin town of Voiron in France.

Across the channel, other flowers, rather than poppies, are laid on the 11th day of the 11th month.
