Droitwich Town Council decides where New Homes Bonus cash is going

DROITWICH Town Council has revealed where the first portion of the area’s New Homes Bonus cash is going.

Following a request from the authority, The Standard ran an extensive consultation period which enabled residents to have their say in a number of ways for the four projects which were in the running for the money.

People were able to vote using a cut-out coupon in the paper, online on the website and via e-mail, Facebook and Twitter.

The Salwarpe Pavilion Refurbishment would see the Kings George V Sports Community Interest Company (CIC) put cash towards a £75,000 investment into the derelict pavilion at the King George V playing fields.

Members of the Droitwich (St Peter’s Fields) Association were hoping for £10,000 towards a £145,000 project to refurbish and extend the existing clubhouse at St Peter’s Fields, St Peter’s Church Lane, to transform it into the Droitwich Spa Community Pavilion.

Fortis Living wanted £33,553.36 to create the Shepherd’s Hill Play Park from a patch of land that had attracted rubbish and anti-social behaviour.

And the Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) appealed for £4,650 to transform a derelict piece of land into the environmentally-sustainable Old Library Community Garden.

There were more than 2,000 unique votes, with 888 going to The Salwarpe Pavilion, 634 pledges for the Droitwich Spa Pavilion, 454 for the Shepherds Hill Play Park and 104 going to the Old Library Community Garden.

At Monday’s Resources Committee meeting, members decided to award £17,000 in this round of funding, giving £5,000 to the projects which finished in the top three – the two pavilions and the play park – and £2,000 to the community garden.
