Westacre School students' singing success at Christmas choral contest

STUDENTS from Westacre Middle School became the pride and joy of Droitwich when they won the Best Choir Award hosted at the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.

No less than 45 students aged between nine and 11 competed with 60 other schools from across the West Midlands.

The children began rehearsing in September this year and were mentored by choir leader Helen Jones.

Music co-ordinator Jo Riddleston said they sang a medley of Christmas songs, however the track that ‘really swung it for them’ was a mish-mash of We Three Kings and Farrell Williams’ Happy.

She added: “We’re really proud of our children for all their hard work, and we’re very grateful to Mrs Jones.”
