TOILETS in the Spa have been proven to be sparkling after they scooped platinum in the annual Loo of the Year Awards.
The conveniences in St Andrews Square and the Lido Park both achieved top honours in the competition ran by the British Toilet Association.
Judges, who take into account several factors, including whether the toilets are clean, safe and hygienic, have been out and about in shopping centres, hotels, parks and other places.
Wychavon’s WCs received good ratings all round with six being awarded platinum and six getting gold.
And the district council finished seventh in the league table of local authorities in the UK.
Coun Emma Stokes, the portfolio holder for environment on Wychavon District Council, said: “We’re delighted with these results and huge thanks must go to our cleaning contractor Mitie Cleaning, who look after the toilets on our behalf, for their hard work.
“The savings we need to make, due to funding cuts, meant last year we had to take the difficult decision to stop providing attendants at our public toilets.
“However, this shows we can make savings and maintain high standards at the same time.”
