THE NEXT meeting of the Droitwich Inner Wheel will take place at the St Andrew’s Town Hotel at 6.45pm this Monday (January 18).
New members are always welcome to go along to the group which, at 70 years old, is the fifth oldest club in the district.
At the last meeting an entertaining and humorous talk on the Norbury Theatre was given by its chairman Anne Lane who was the guest speaker for the eveing.
Anne also brought members up-to-date with the latest shows, spoke about the screening of West End stage productions and talked about the history of the Norbury.
Members found out how it is situated in Norbury House – an art deco building which started life out as a luxury hotel and became a military hospital during the Second World War.
The theatre took up residence in 1962 and ten years ago, after the lease ran out, a 125-year lease was bought by landlords Friar Street Arts with a £10,000 grant from the council.
And Anne also talked about the different Norbury groups – from youths to seniors and about how a 94-year-old volunteer oversees the props.
Lesley Mackenzie from the Inner Wheel thanked Anne for her talk.
