A DROITWICH singer is in the running to represent Britain in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Abby Inez will take to the stage as one half of girl duo Darline alongside her co-star Cara Beard.
The pair will be performing at 7.30pm on BBC Four on Friday when they will compete against five other acts in a bid to be the face of the UK in Stockholm in May. They will sing live in front of an audience at the O2 Forum in a programme which will be watched by millions of people up and down the country.
Abby, who was featured in The Standard when she became an iTunes sensation, said: “I’m so excited and honoured to be part of this year’s search for the Eurovision entry and to hopefully represent my country.
“I’m having so much fun being part of the whole process and can’t wait for everyone to hear our song Until Tomorrow live on Friday night.”
John Dudley, who worked with Abby as part of the Droitwich Spa Music and Art Festival, 4 Shires Festival and For Droitwich Spa, said: “She is tremendous – she is really down to Earth and has a great personality.”
He added she first appeared on the scene in the Pop Icon competitions at the Chateau Impney at the age of 13.
“She was even outstanding then and she has come on a lot since.
“She has worked really hard to get to this point – she has put the time in and it has now come to fruition.
“She is a real inspiration for the young people of Droitwich Spa to aspire to,” he added.
The show will be hosted by Great British Bake Off presenter Mel Giedroyc, half of popular presenting pair Mel and Sue, with the final show in May presented by Graham Norton.
