Midlands Air Ambulance named as this year's Chateau Hill Climb charity

Droitwich Editorial 26th Feb, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THE MIDLANDS Air Ambulance will be the official charity of the 2016 Chateau Impney Hill Climb.

The historic motorsport event takes place in the grounds of the hotel on July 9 and 10 this year.

The charity will have a static display providing visitors with information on the MAA’s life-saving work and there will be several other activities for spectators to get involved in.

The choice of charity partner is fitting as this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Midlands Air Ambulance.

Back then it had just one helicopter and a temporary air base, now there are three helicopters serving a population of 6million and it has responded to more than 43,000 missions to date.

The extension means the charity now needs to raise in excess of £7million to operate its life-saving services.

Rod Spollon, event director, said he was delighted to be able to support such an important and hard-working charity.

“Many people will be surprised to know air ambulances in the UK receive no Government funding and only fly and operate due to the goodwill and donations of companies and individuals.

“Given the nature of our event, it seemed apt that our first charity partner should be the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.”

Jason Levy, the MAA’s fund-raising and marketing director, added: “We are honoured to be the chosen charity for the Chateau Impney Hill Climb in our Air25 anniversary year.

“The weekend is set to attract a great number of visitors, giving us the opportunity to highlight the importance of our pre-hospital emergency service, and help raise funds to enable us to fly further life saving air ambulance missions across the Midlands.”

The Chateau Impney Hill Climb, which enjoyed a successful revival last July after almost half a century, will see 200 pre-1967 cars race against the clock to claim victory on one of the UK’s most challenging hill climb courses.

As well as the motorsport for all the family, the evnet will include a comprehensive Concours d’Elegance, a vintage funfair, air displays, and a major classic car auction, hosted by specialist auctioneers, H&H Classics.

Last year, 10,000 people flocked to the grounds of the unique Droitwich hotel to welcome motorsport back to the venue. The event has already become a firm favourite for competitors and spectators alike, thanks to its open paddock, free grandstands and welcoming family atmosphere.

Tickets for 2016’s event are priced from £20 per person, and under-16s will be admitted free with a ticket-holding adult. An early bird discount of 15 per cent is available for advance purchases before March 31.
