A DROITWICH councillor has lobbied Wychavon District Council, asking the authority to employ an officer to help make the most of the Spa’s brine heritage.
Coun Bob Brookes passionately implored members at the full council meeting last Wednesday (February 24) for aid in funding to re-establish Droitwich as a spa town.
He said: “I recently supported a local businessman, at my own expense, to visit Brussels to try to raise funding, however further work is needed which I cannot continue to personally fund.
“I believe the council as holders of the main assets should take a firm lead to make things happen.
“It is clear nothing will happen unless we make it happen. I respectfully ask for your support.”
He was backed by several councillors including Coun Tony Miller and Roy Murphy.
Coun Martin King said: “There are one or two problems – we are asked to support the appointment of an officer but there is no job description, no cost.
“I would struggle with that without a business case.
“We have heard the panels are the right place to work it up to get it to that superior state to build on this for the whole of Worcestershire.
“I support it being referred back to the executive along those lines.”
The motion was put forward to the committee stage and Coun Brookes said he was hopeful this was the first step towards making it a reality. Droitwich Town Council is also expected to discuss their involvement at the next council meeting.
