Four flood rescues in Droitwich as waters rise

Droitwich Editorial 11th Mar, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THERE were four rescues in Droitwich alone on Wednesday as vehicles became submerged in rising floodwaters.

In the first at 7.59am, a driver was rescued from Clattercut Lane with the use of an LVG (Large Goods Vehicle) after his van became stranded.

Crews from Bromsgrove and Pershore carried out the rescue.

Then just minutes later in Ford Lane another rescue was carried out and at 8.37am in Kidderminster Road, a woman and her car were rescued by firefighters.

And at 1.25pm, a boat was needed when two crews from Droitwich went to rescue a man from his van in Ford Lane.

The vehicle became submerged in floodwaters and had floated off before resting against a fence.

Those four incidents were among 16 flood-related rescues carried out across the Hereford and Worcester Fire service area.

Following the incidents Station Commander Alan Haley warned drivers to take heed of warnings and signs and to always comply with any road closure notices.

“If in any doubt, find an alternative route to avoid the potential risk.

“This may possibly cause inconvenience and additional travel distance, but could save the need to be assisted or rescued from a marooned vehicle or potentially more serious and tragic consequences if caught up in flowing flood water.”
