THE DETAILED plan to build 241 homes in Droitwich on land north of Pulley Lane and Newland Lane has been given the green light by Wychavon District Council planners.
The Redrow application on the Yew Tree Hill site was rubber stamped last Thursday (March 3).
The chair of the planning committee, Coun Paul Middleborough, said he was surprised there were no public speakers but, Coun Tony Miller, said residents were ‘at a loss’ and disheartened with the process.
Wychavon District Council had originally thrown out two controversial housing development applications for the site, only for the Planning Inspectorate to overturn that decision in July 2014.
The application last Thursday was approved by 13 votes to one.
Coun Richard Morris, who has campaigned tirelessly on issues surrounding Yew Tree Hill, echoed Coun Miller’s comments about the residents’ frustration of the process and said there was still a lot more to be done.
He said that while residents were never going to be happy with any development on the site, Redrow had consulted residents and gone some way to meet their requirements.
“There are still discussions to be had outside the planning chamber – we haven’t yet seen the final plans and there are still concerns about Pulley Lane and the infrastructure which need addressing.
“We will keep fighting,” he said.
In total, the Yew Tree Hill development will include up to 765 homes, a 200-bed care facility, a mixed use local centre and associated infrastructure on land at Pulley Lane, Newlands Road and Primsland Way, Droitwich, and Land North of Pulley Lane and Newland Lane, Newland.
