A PORTRAIT of the town’s teenage boxing sensation Sian O’Toole has been unveiled at The Pavilion Sports Bar at the King George Playing Field.

Sian created history last year when she became the first Droitwich Amateur Boxing Academy fighter to lift a national title.

The 16-year-old won the National Association of Boys and Girls Club Championship in Bristol.

Simon Berry from the 4 Shires Festivals commissioned the portrait as the first of what will be many local sports personalities who have attained outstanding achievements in their designated sports.

Simon requested Droitwich Arts Network (DAN) to undertake the task and the picture was done by Bob Addy.

Mr Addy said: ”The portrait of Siân took just over three weeks from preliminary drawings to finished painting.

“I very much enjoyed doing the painting as portraits are my favourite genre and I usually work from photographs as most people don’t have the time to pose.

“It was a pleasure to meet Siân, a lovely, pleasant young lady with a real talent. I’m looking forward to painting the next three portraits.”

Simon said: “I’m delighted to put forward the first commission of Siân O’Toole who has dedicated so much time to get to where she is.

“Watching her boxing style, she combines the sport’s physical demands with the grace of a ballerina.”

The portrait was unveiled by Coun Pam Davey and Ruth Bourne was there, representing the Droitwich Arts Network.
