PUPILS at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Droitwich were tasked with creating their favourite scene from a book in a shoebox for their World Book Day project.

The staff were overwhelmed by the response as 125 shoeboxes were put forward by children either working on their own or with their siblings.

Reception teacher Helen Smith, who is also the EYFS leader and English leader, told The Standard: “The children’s creations were so impressive from reception all the way up to year six.

“It was inspiring to listen to the children talk about their chosen story and how they had designed their scene in the shoebox.”

She added it was a fantastic project as it provided cross links in the curriculum between English and art and design technology.

Staff and pupils also dressed up as their favourite characters on the day.
