Ideas put forward to make the most of Droitwich's brine heritage

MORE THAN 30 people came together to put forward ideas about how Droitwich’s brine heritage could be used to boost tourism in the town and the local economy.

It was organised by the Droitwich Spa Brine Heritage Group, led by Coun Richard Morris, and was aimed at agreeing a vision and strategy everyone could work towards.

The meeting – in the John Corbett Room of the Community Hall, Heritage Way, started with Coun Morris summarising the background and reason for the get-together – Droitwich has a fantastic heritage but its potential to benefit the town is not being reached.

The vision was that by 2020 Droitwich Spa would be officially recognised as one of the top five spa towns in the UK.

It would be achieved by doubling the number of visitors coming to Droitwich for brine attractions.

Alison Caffyn, a specialist in heritage tourism and regeneration, led a very lively and productive discussion and agreed points will be developed in the coming months.

Coun Richard Morris said he was passionate about making far more of the town’s heritage.

“I was delighted with the enthusiastic response from everyone.

“It really is important all groups connected with Droitwich brine provide input to this group but with this response and the commitment we received I am very hopeful of significant progress in the future.”
