SPA residents are being urged to go along to a public painting session tomorrow (Saturday) for this year’s St Richard’s Mural.
The event, organised by Droitwich Arts Network (DAN) in conjunction with pupils from Westacre Middle School, will take place between 10am and 4pm at St Andrew’s Shopping Centre, outside Boots and Peacocks.
Paints, brushes and protective clothing will all be provided so participants can take on their task.
Westacre pupils recently went along to The Meetbox at St Andrew’s Shopping Centre and, with the help of DAN members, completed the transfer of their design.
The 14ft high and 40ft wide finished piece will be suspended behind Malvern Tyres, the Middlewich canal basin, at the ‘Railway Tavern’ at Vines Park.
It will depict the life and times of Edward Winslow – one of the town’s most famous sons who set out on the Mayflower and helped set up the Plymouth Colony in the USA. It will be inaugurated by the Mayor of Droitwich on April 30 and DAN members are also in discussion with the Governor of Edward Winslow School in Marshfield USA, which has a memorial to the pioneer in their local cemetery.
Malcolm Wakeman, chair of Droitwich Arts Network, said: “The enthusiasm of Westacre’s creative team is infectious.
“Jo Riddleston and her Westacre pupils have come up with a highly original approach to this year’s mural and the standard of the children’s work is outstanding.”
DAN exists to advocate and champion the arts in Droitwich, including visual arts, performing arts, photography, media, written and crafts.
The network encourages residents to get involved in the various events and projects in the town and ensures works are prominently displayed.
