A WATER giving project funded by Lions clubs from across the Midlands, including Droitwich, is starting to have a positive effect on its community in Kenya.
Carole Moseley, who is a member of Droitwich Lions and is also the Midlands district water conservation officer, received a letter from Rajinder Sembi from the Lions Club of Kakameja about the scheme which operates in Bungoma County.
After the latest work, the local community can tap off the main water line that had been installed in the church compound.
Chris Nyongesa, deputy headteacher at Bukunjangabo SA Primary School, said she was extremely grateful to the UK Lions clubs for the project which also provides clean, fresh water for more than 800 pupils there. Previously, 3,000 villagers had to trek miles to get unhygienic and unsafe river water.
Droitwich Lions past president Bill Phillips said: “We would like to thank the people of Droitwich who have made contributions to our club over the last year – they should be very proud that they have helped make this happen.”
