TRAVELLERS have settled in Droitwich causing concern to residents, but police have said it is up to the land owner to decide a course of action.

Caravans arrived at Berry Hill Trading Estate, which belongs to Worcestershire County Council on March 22 and have been coming and going since.

One person told The Standard: “The grass verges have been churned up and there are piles of rubbish appearing.”

Sgt Sarah Kent said: “The Police have dealt with concerns raised by local businesses and will continue to patrol the area regularly to provide reassurance to local people and we are working with our partner agencies including the County Council to monitor the situation.

“It is the responsibility of the landowner to consider what action they should take when Travellers reside on their land. The Police have limited powers to remove Travellers from land but those powers do not apply to Highways.”
