DROITWICH Mixed B got their Herefordshire & Worcestershire Division Three campaign off to the perfect start with a convincing 4-0 victory over Belbroughton A.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, the result was made easier as only two players turned up for Belbroughton but despite this, Neil Bates and Penny Maidment won their match 6-0, 6-0 before Robin Jones and Kate Hughes battled hard for a 6-4, 7-6 victory.

Droitwich’s Mixed D team took on Belbroughton B in Division Five and the pair of Richard and Eileen Probyn-Skinner lost their first match in straight sets before losing a tight three-set game 3-6, 6-3, 3-6.

Ricky Hollander and Lydia Walker-Cox also lost their first match in straight sets but battled back from a set down to win their second match 1-6, 7-5, 7-5.

However, the result was not good enough for overall victory as Spa went down 3-1.

Droitwich Ladies F lost their second Division Eight clash as they were well beaten by a strong and experienced David Lloyd Bromsgrove D team.

Giving debuts to Megan Ross, Kate Bates and Imogen Alldritt, Spa were no match for their superior opposition.

Despite their best efforts, Bates and Alldritt lost both of their matches in straight sets as well as Megan Bibbey and namesake Helen.

Christine Brighton and Helen Whiteside also lost their first match in straight sets before a battling performance saw them lose their second match 6-4, 3-6, 4-6.

Elsewhere, both of Droitwich’s Men’s AEGON teams secured victories.

The Men’s A team recorded an 8-4 victory over Hallow A in Division Two. Scott Howell won his single match in three sets while Joe Maidment and Rich Clive won theirs in straight sets.

Kevin Hodges unfortunately lose his singles match and was later partnered by Clive for a doubles match which they lost in a tight three-set game.

Maidment and Howell secured the win for Droitwich as they won a marathon three-set game.

In Division Three, the Men’s B team travelled to Ombersley B with Carlos Segura, Robin Poyser, Ben Steel and David Lamb winning all of their singles matches in straight sets.

Lamb and Steel won their doubles match 6-2, 6-2 but Ombersley won a consolation as they defeated Segura and Poyser in a close three-set doubles match.
