A 90-YEAR old Droitwich music man with a passion for line-dancing and a zest for life will DJ to the over 65s to mark National Dementia Week on Monday (May 16).
The beaming smile and sprightly nature of Reginald Bache will welcome music lovers to a free-of-charge Tea Dance from 2pm to 4pm at the Old Library in Droitwich – organised by Age UK in aid of National Dementia Week.
The event will feature music from Reggie who has been playing music for 17 years but had to stop to take care of his wife Edna who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s last year.
Reggie’s memory loss advisor Carolyn Pym said: “Reggie has experienced a string of personal family tragedies all in close proximity yet is determined to make the most of life and is an inspiration to so many people.
“He’s just a very selfless man who wants to make other people happy.
“And he’s the life and soul of any event who has everybody up and dancing – we’re very lucky he’s offered to help us.
“I know Reggie would absolutely love to play music regularly so I’m hoping this awareness event will inspire someone out there to host more tea dances with this wonderful man.”
The charming ex-Navy man performed a little line-dance to demonstrate his skill before playing ‘Love is in the Air’ by John Paul Young.
Next week, DJ Reggie will be playing Caribbean salsa, tango, rumba, waltz, country and weston and generally lots of ‘party music,’ including classics from George Formby and Bing Cosby.
About Monday’s event, he said “I’ll have my cowboy hat on for when we play country and weston and if you want a tune playing, just pick a CD and I’ll play it for you.”
