Firm's expansion to bring 300 jobs to Droitwich if plans get the green light

DROITWICH could be in for an employment boost after an engineering firm unveiled expansion plans that would lead to hundreds of extra jobs at one of its town sites.

The news released by Doncasters Group about its Vines Lane plant, reaffirms the 238-year-old engineering business’ commitment to being one of Droitwich’s largest employers.

If given the green light the proposal, which will go before Wychavon District Council planners on Thursday (May 26), will see the precision casting business virtually double the size of its factory, creating up to 300 extra jobs.

Doncasters currently employs 450 people at that plant and 521 in total, which includes at two other sites in Droitwich.

The proposal put forward would be for part of the existing building to be demolished, a replacement extension built and the extension of the existing building.

As part of the planning process, the business is carrying out a public consultation with residents and has held discussions with local councillors in order to ensure that the benefits are also felt by the local community.

Mark Ward, the divisional managing director for Turbins Airfoils at Doncasters, said: “Our plans will not only bring new jobs to Droitwich, they will also help to protect existing jobs, help local people develop new skills and ensure that the town remains key to the future of our business.”
