A DROITWICH businessman has been given a 12-month community order and 150 hours unpaid work for handling stolen goods.

Steven Deakin, of Droitwich Spa Computers, High Street, Droitwich, was handed the sentence when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Tuesday (May 17).

Deakin had denied taking possession of a stolen laptop, whilst knowing or believing it to have been stolen, in January this year.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team in Droitwich investigated the offence and charges were brought.

Sgt Sarah Kent of Droitwich and Pershore Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “I am pleased with the outcome in court and hope this sends a message to others that handling stolen goods is a serious offence.

“The penalty for this offence is the same as for theft as the ability to sell stolen goods easily encourages people to steal. ”

She said officers always urged anyone with any information regarding the location of stolen goods to call the Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
