WITH the Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival just over three weeks away, youngsters from Witton Middle School have been making their own beef burgers.
A total of 30 children from the Old Coach Road school were visited by chefs Linda and Jack from The Gardeners Arms, who showed them how to make the perfect patties.
The aim was to illustrate how simple it was for them to cook their own food, rather than turn to ready meals or fast food.
Droitwich Food Festival organiser Patrick Davis told The Standard: “It was great to see the children put together all the fresh ingredients, cook and eat the burgers themselves.”
Other schools taking part in food festival projects include Westlands First School, St Peters First School, St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Little Learners, and St Peters Pre-School.
The Droitwich Food Festival, which takes place from June 18 to 19, will be officially opened by Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.
She will also be running a baking masterclass for visitors to the extravaganza.
Other activities will include local chefs in the demonstration kitchen, up to 150 exhibitors with a wide range of food and drink related products, street entertainment on both days and a ‘Kids Zone’ with a host of free activities.
The Droitwich Spa Food & Drink Festival is run by a committee of volunteer representatives and is supported by Wychavon District Council.
