Toploader heading to Droitwich tomorrow to headline Friar Fest 2016

FRIAR Street will be alive with the sounds of music and the smells of a multitude of different foods tomorrow (June 4) for one of the town’s favourite summer events.

Friar Fest was launched by Stuart Wilcox and Graham Leonard – the landlords of The Old Cock Inn – back in 2012 as a ‘one off event’. But it came back in 2014 due to popular demand and has since gone from strength to strength.

In 2012 it attracted 600 people, 800 in 2014 and last year 1,200.

And with 1990s / 2000s chart toppers Toploader headlining the main stage, former UK Eurovision star Nicki French and 14 other acts performing, it is anticipated more than 2,000 will be heading down to the free community festival.

On offer at the Friar Fest, Festival of Culture and Music, as well as the entertainment, will be street food and a bar.

The event, which runs from 11.30am to 9.30pm, is renowned for its colourful and fun carnival atmosphere and the way it brings visitors to the town, boosting tourism for the Spa.

And this year’s promises to be one to remember.
