GIRLS from Dodderhill School rocketed their way into a number of challenges by participating in their first ever space week (May 16 to 20).
Year eight pupils took part in a game in ‘get nosey’ – a challenging task to test their sense of smell, an important skill astronauts need to detect any rocket fuel that may be in the air.
The school launched their own rocket after space centre and rocket design workshops throughout the week.
Year seven and eight students took part in a space race.
The event was aimed at educating the youngsters on space and astronauts.
There was also a trip for year six and seven students to the National Space Centre in Leicester, home to the world’s largest planetarium.
The school also took part in a space broadcast and planted its space seeds whiich spent six months on the International Space Station. Their progress will be compared to that of seeds that have not been taken into space.
Headmistress Cate Mawston said: “We’ve all had a really enjoyable week – the girls have been so positive about the activities and there’s been a real buzz in the air.”
