A PLAN to put double yellow lines across a stretch of the B4090 Hanbury Road in Droitwich was accepted by councillors at Monday’s Droitwich Town Council meeting and now awaits official approval.
The deadline for all comments on the proposal is next Friday (June 17) and, if there are no objections after that, the order will be made and the lines will be painted in the area of the vets and funeral directors.
Coun Pam Davey has been the driving force behind the campaign to get the yellow lines painted since 2014.
She said the prohibition order was important to prevent people parking on the footpath, which not only caused severe traffic congestion, but also stopped pedestrians – especially those with pushchairs and wheelchairs – from using the pavement.
Coun Davey said residents were ‘very angry and fed up’ with the situation.
“The system takes far too long-winded and aggravates me every time.
“If you don’t do the process exactly to the letter you are open to challenge by people who don’t like the fact they can’t park where they want and they have a legal friend who points out the procedure wasn’t followed properly.
“If everyone was considerate and no one parked on the footpath or in someone else’s drive – there would be no need for these regulations.
“I shall be pressing for it to be done as a matter of urgency as soon as the formalities have been completed.”
Coun Davey said there were often about eight or nine cars parked on the stretch of Hanbury Road where the yellow lines are planned for.
She said there were other options to park in the town, including 50p for half an hour at Droitwich’s car parks or £3 for the whole day while, she added, there was also St Andrew’s Car Park – which was ‘often half empty’.
