The wait is nearly over for this year's Droitwich Food Festival

AFTER months of planning and anticipation, this year’s Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival takes place in the town this weekend.

The extravaganza is shaping up to be a fantastic showcase with around 200 food and drinks stalls lining up over two days.

It will officially get under way tomorrow (Saturday) when Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, who was recently tasked with creating HM The Queen’s 90th birthday cake, officially opens the event at 10am.

Nadiya will also be running a cookery masterclass at midday and tickets for that have now almost sold out.

For those who have not yet booked, it will be standing room only.

The festival also has 100 copies of the popular cook’s new book Nadiya’s Kitchen which can be bought for £15 – a saving £5 on the RRP and Nadiya will be available to sign them on the day.

Sunday will be another great day out, especially for dads on Father’s Day.

To celebrate, the organisers have launched a campaign to find the Best Dad in Droitwich. There have been plenty of names forward so far but there is still time to get nominations in. The Best Dad will be announced at midday and will receive two great prizes – a round of golf at Gaudet Luce Golf Club and a dads’ hamper from Waitrose.

Another attraction is the cider masterclass and cider tasting presented by James Crowden author and poet whose book Ciderland won the Andre Simon Food & Drink Award 2008. And there will be lots of food & drink stalls to check out.

Organiser Patrick Davis said: “Do come along and have a great day out.”

The Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival is run by a committee of volunteer representatives and is supported by Wychavon District Council.
