STUDENTS from Droitwich Spa High School visited the Houses of Parliament to find out more about politics.
Alex Wright, George Boalch, Jack Gilpin, Corey Lewis, Rhianna Seward, Rosie Griffin and Ella McEwan took part in a schools programme to see how Westminster operated.
During their visit, as part of Parliamentary Education Day, they sat in both the Commons and the Lords, watched debates, toured Parliament buildings, visited the Great Hall and experienced the chaos of the famous lobby as MPs rushed by to get deals done.
Students had previously toured Whitehall, Horseguards and stopped to take in Downing Street where they met George Galloway on his mayoral campaign, Prof Robert Winstone on his way to the Lords, ambassador and athlete Tammy grey Thompson and BBC economics presenter Steph McGovern.
Head of politics Mark Drew said the day brought to life all the concepts and ideas the students had worked so hard on.
“Despite all their application and depth of knowledge, there’s still nothing like the experience of standing under Big Ben and taking in the Palace of Westminster.
“The students had a real appreciation of how important Parliament’s work is and seeing the MPs up close, actually debating and finalising laws that will affect their lives, was a unique experience.”
He thanked Mr daCosta, headteacher Natalie Waters and MP Nigel Huddleston for helping arrange the day.
