DROITWICH Tennis Club has thrown its weight behind the campaign to revamp the courts at the town’s Lido Park.
The drive, to raise £20,000, has been launched by Spa mum Elaine Newman who said, whilst it was good to have the area at the park, over the years, the courts had become very tired with many cracks and dangerous potholes. She added if something was not done soon they would be unusable.
It is anticipated the project will cost £40,000 and when the initial cash is raised, Wychavon District Council, also backing the scheme, has announced it will match-fund the total to help it reach its target.
With more than 360 members, Droitwich Tennis Club is one of the largest sports clubs in the town.
Chairman Neil Bates said: “Tennis is a great sport for people of all ages and is fun to play.
“Get your hands on two rackets and a ball and you’re off – provided you can find somewhere to play.
“This project will give free access to courts for many years to come and what Elaine is trying to achieve is fantastic.”
Elaine added: “It’s great to have the tennis club on board as their help and enthusiasm for the sport will be invaluable to making the project a success.”
