THERE will be rackets at the ready in Droitwich’s Lido Park this Saturday (August 6) when a free afternoon of tennis sessions takes place.

‘Tennis in the Park’ will feature free tennis activities for those aged from five to 85.

The event has been organised as part of the campaign to get the courts at the Lido Park revamped and in conjunction with Droitwich Tennis Club.

No previous experience is necessary and participants can either take their own rackets if they have them or use equipment which will be provided.

There will be a Tennis Fun Factory for very young visitors.

Hour-long sessions will take place at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm and people can just turn up on the day, there is no need to book.

Elaine Newman who is spearheading the campaign to raise £40,000 so the Lido Park courts can be refurbished will be on hand to talk to people about the campaign and how they can get involved.

Once £20,000 is raised, Wychavon District Council has said it will match-fund the amount to get the campaign to its target.

Droitwich Tennis Club chairman Neil Bates will also be there to answer general questions about playing tennis in the town.
