Plenty of fun for all the family at the annual Salwarpe Fete tomorrow

THERE will be a celebration of HM The Queen’s 90th birthday at the annual Salwarpe Fete tomorrow (Saturday).

The event, from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, will feature a host of activities, including a fairground merry-go-round, a cactus lasso, family quiz and live entertainment provided by Wychavon’s ‘W-Factor’ finalists.

The event is being held at Churchfields Farm, Copcut Lane – the home of the luxury Churchfields Ice Cream – thanks to Mr and Mrs Michael Davies who own the farm.

Visitors can contribute to the theme by wearing something red, white and blue.

Older children and adults can try their seat on a bucking bronco, making its maiden appearance, with prizes for the adult and child who stay on the longest.

In addition to all the stalls and games on the field where West Mercia Police Brass Band and Worcester Ukelele Band will be providing a musical backdrop, the fete spreads into the church where St Richard’s Hospice Choir will be singing amid displays of flowers, the handiwork of Saltway Quilters and an exhibition of local history.

The village hall, too, plays host to Salwarpe WI, whose home made teas are always very popular and on the car park will be numerous classic cars and other interesting vehicles.

Add to this qualified coaches organising sports day races and games for children, the huge bric-a-brac marquee with bargains galore, the grand raffle with superb prizes and Salwarpe’s own Queen ‘B’ mingling among the crowds and you have a grand birthday party for our monarch.

Proceeds from the fete go towards maintaining the historic churches at Salwarpe and Martin Hussingtree.

Entry is £1 for adults, children 15 and under free and car parking is also free.
