Corbyn gets the thumbs up from the Mid Worcestershire Labour Party

Droitwich Editorial 20th Aug, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

EMBERS of the Mid Worcestershire Constituency Labour Party have overwhelmingly backed Jeremy Corbyn over Owen Smith in the battle for the party’s leadership.

A meeting took place on August 11 and, whilst meetings are usually split between Droitwich and Evesham, this get-together brought members from both groups together – 36 attended.

Owen Smith’s leadership challenge has sparked lively debate within the party and members of all ages, including some attending their first party meeting, were allowed the opportunity to air their views in a respectful manner.

A vote was conducted by secret ballot and the subsequent result of 27 votes for Corbyn to Smith’s nine showed the current Labour leader was the firm favourite of the branch and the Mid Worcestershire CLP will now be nominating him to retain the role.

Voting starts on Monday (August 22) and closes on September 21. Results are announced on September 24.

Details of future CLP meetings can be found at https://midworcestershireclp.com/ or on the Facebook page.
