Droitwich's 'high quality' parks retain their Green Flag status

DROITWICH’S parks are among the best in the country after two of them retained their Green Flag status.

The Lido Park/St Peter’s Fields and Vines Park have both been awarded the prestigious awards by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.

They recognise those green areas which are maintained to the highest standard and have excellent facilities.

The Green Flag Awards are judged by an army of more than 700 green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.

Lynn Stevens, Wychavon District Council’s senior parks and greenspace officer, said: “We’re thrilled to once again have the Green Flags flying in all of our main parks as they are a signal of the quality and cleanliness of these wonderful green and open places that everyone is welcome to enjoy.

“There is so much to enjoy in our parks – we have children’s play areas and water play facilities, cycle paths, skate parks, picnic benches, plenty of seating, lovely planted areas and, of course, lots and lots of green open space.”

She also praised the new piece of artwork – the carved ‘salt worker in Droitwich’s Lido Park – which she said was one of many ongoing improvements being carried out to maintain and enhance parks across the district
