Four fire crews tackle Droitwich High Street chip shop blaze

FIREFIGHTERS from four stations were called to Droitwich High Street at 6.53pm on last night (Wednesday) after a blaze broke out in a town chip shop.

The owner of the Droitwich Fish and Chip Bar evacuated the building and, thanks to their quick actions, everyone escaped without injury.

Two crews from Droitwich and one each from Bromsgrove, Worcester and Kidderminster were sent to the scene and acted quickly to contain the fire in the origin room.

They used water jets and powder extinguishers to put out the fire and the gas and electricity supplies were isolated.

Firefighters then used tools to break into the ventilation system and, once inside, used thermal imaging cameras on the ground floor, in the roof space and in the adjoining properties to ensure the blaze had not spread.

The crews reinspected the building at midnight and they were on-site for around five-and-a-half hours in total.

An investigation into the incident has now been launched.
