DROITWICH’S annual Salt Fest celebrations will take place this weekend with a host of fun for all the family.

Tomorrow (Saturday), there will be a parade through the town, led by the Droitwich Air Cadets Band, and there will also be heritage displays, a Roman re-enactment, markets, community stalls, an art exhibition, a farm animal corner, circus skills, a duck race and boat trips on the canal.

Visitors can learn about the town’s salt history through displays, activities and demonstrations in ‘Salt Alley’.

Among them are salt making, salt carving and even model cars powered by salt.

There is also a chance to learn more about the Romans, how they lived and what they wore and ate through storytelling sessions.

On the Sunday, there will be a fun dog show, run by vets MacArthur, Barstow and Gibbs, to raise funds for Danemere Animal Rescue and Bishops Wood Swan Rescue. It will have nine classes for dogs of all shapes and sizes, as well as have-a-go agility sessions.

The live entertainment, which starts tonight (Friday), has been organised by the 4 Shires Festivals.

It will be opened by Droitwich singer/songwriter Abbey Inez who has recently been signed by Warner Bros’ East/West record label.

Tonight’s will be an acoustic session with artists including Stuart Woolfenden and Polly Edwards.

Tomorrow (Saturday) as well as Abbey Inez, there will also be Beth Humphreys who has starred in the West End and has recently moved back to Droitwich, and Gypsy jazz / blues band Strumpit.

And on Sunday The Beached Boys will return after their successful

performance at the Droitwich Spa Beer, Cider and Music Festival. Worcester blues artist Old Bob Jones will also be in a duo with Garrington Tee Jones as part of Sunday’s line-up.

Beer-lovers can also try out a new 4.3 per cent salted caramel Salt Fest Ale which has been specially created for the festival.
