RESIDENTS have just over a week left to see the exhibition about the life of John Hemmige, the Droitwich man who saved Shakespeare’s plays for the World.
It has been on show at the Droitwich Spa Heritage Centre throughout the summer and ends on October 12.
Mr Hemming, born in Droitwich and baptised on November 25, 1556 in St Peter’s Church, had a most remarkable life – he was The Bard’s great friend and a famous actor at the time.
The Norbury Theatre, which has staged Shakespeare’s plays in the town and in Stratford-upon-Avon, has loaned a period costume for the display.
A spokesperson for the centre said: “The country is celebrating Shakespeare’s death 400 years ago this year but if John Heminge had not been born 460 years ago, and outlived him, he would not have been around to save his works.”
