Droitwich residents warned by police over bogus Big Issue sellers after previous prosecution

DROITWICH residents wanting to give to the Big Issue are being warned to ensure the person they are giving to is a genuine ‘Big Issue’ seller.

The Droitwich SNT has previously worked with the magazine publishers and successfully prosecuted a fraudulent seller and Sgt Sarah Kent wants to ensure people are buying from genuine vendors.

Big Issue sellers will always wear the Big Issue tabard and have photo identification to confirm who they are and that they are authorised to sell Big Issues.

In the past, Sgt Kent said, vulnerable people had been targeted for additional ‘donations’ by unauthorised sellers, some on a regular basis.

“Even if you feel you recognise the seller please check their identification and do not buy a magazine from unauthorised people or give additional money beyond the value of the magazine.”

Residents wanting more information should call Droitwich SNT on 101.
