MORE THAN 600 people turned out for Droitwich’s annual Christmas lights switch-on which took place in the town on Saturday (November 26).
Spa Paralympian Rebecca Redfern was joined by Droitwich Mayor, Coun Roy Murphy, for the big plunger push and there was a host of festive fun for all the family throughout the day.
There were performances by Westacre Middle School Choir and the Worcestershire Rock Choir, funfair rides in Victoria Square, market stalls from both county farmers and festive item sellers, and a grotto in St Richard’s House.
The event coincided with the start of the St Andrews Christmas Tree Festival and the Salvation Army Band performed popular Christmas songs in St Andrews Shopping Centre.
There was also a festive family concert at St Andrews Church in the evening and parking was free for the afternoon.
Mark Keld, from Droitwich Town Council, said: “It went really well – the weather was good and there were a lot of people in the town centre who all seemed to be enjoying themselves.
“I thought the performances from the choirs was excellent and the Droitwich Lions were very pleased with the grotto – there was a steady flow of families going through all day.”
Droitwich’s Christmas Market will take place on Victoria Square from December 20 to 23.
