A DROITWICH school has been named as an ICT Centre of Excellence.

Westacre Middle School is the first school to receive the accolade as part of a developing programme run by Bromsgrove based Catshill Learning Partnerships.

Over the next year, Westacre will be joined by a select few other schools from the West Midlands which will offer training to schools across the region in all areas of the national computing curriculum.

The school held its first training course which focused on how middle schools across the county could use the new BBC Microbit computers to enhance their key stage three computer programming provision.

Paul Barber, deputy head and computing leader, said: “As a school we are extremely proud of what we have achieved with our computing provision over the last few years.

“We are continually striving to develop what we offer our pupils, so to be recognised as a centre of excellence is both an exciting and rewarding opportunity for our staff and pupils.

“We look forward to sharing the successes we have enjoyed recently with other schools and are sure that holding training courses at Westacre will benefit our staff and pupils as well.”
